Mustangs Remain Entrenched At No. 6

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Stevenson University men's volleyball team remained firmly entrenched at the number six spot for the fifth straight week in the newest American Volleyball Coaches Association DIII Top-15 national poll as announced by the organization on Tuesday afternoon.

The Mustangs are currently 24-3 overall and 9-1 in Middle Atlantic Conference play and are ranked for the eleventh consecutive week.

Stevenson went 4-0 last week sweeping a pair of tri-matches on Friday and Saturday.  On Friday, the team rallied back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Vassar 3-2 (19-25, 13-25, 25-11, 25-21, and 18-16), before blanking the host Marymount University by a score of 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, and 29-27).  Senior Landon Shorts and sophomore Logan Smiley paced the Mustangs attack combining to post 53 kills, with Shorts leading the side with 14 in each match.  Against Vassar sophomore Nate Reynolds totaled eight blocks, while versus Marymount junior Kyle Bosko recorded a team-high five.  Graduate student Christian Taylor handed out 35 assists in each contest.  Then on Saturday, the Mustangs took down conference foe Wilkes University 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, and 25-13), prior to dispatching of non-conference Penn State-Behrend 3-2 (25-21, 21-25, 25-14, 22-25, and 15-9).  Shorts continued his strong weekend by adding another 24 kills between the two matchups.  Smiley posted a dozen against Behrend.  In the match with Wilkes, Stevenson used a very balanced attack with sophomore Garrett Weigel leading the way with eight, while juniors Nathan Bosse and Bosko along with freshman Tanner Stauffer each totaled six.  

This week the Mustangs continue MAC play with a pair of solo matches.  First, on Wednesday, March 27 they travel to Grantham, Pennslyvania to battle the Messiah College Falcons at 7pm.  The next contest comes on Saturday, March 30 as the road trip continues with a date against the Widener University Pride in Chester, Pennsylvania with the first serve slated for 2pm.
