ANNVILLE, Pa. - The Stevenson softball team was picked to finish seventh in the 2019 Middle Atlantic Conference (Commonwealth) Coaches' Preseason Poll announced by the league on Tuesday. It is the same position the Mustangs finished in 2018.
Messiah was picked to repeat as conference champions, earning 63 points and seven of the nine first place votes. Arcadia, last year's runner up, earned two first place votes and totaled 58 points for second place. Lebanon Valley, the 2013, 2014, and 2015 champions, rounding out the top three with 45 points.
The Mustangs, who reached the 2013 conference title game, received 20 points. The team returns senior Erin Stephey, who led the team with 52 hits, 32 RBIs, 26 runs, and three triples while ranking second with seven home runs and nine doubles. Junior Morghan Fulton, a two-time all-conference selection, returns in the pitching circle after striking out 45 batters.
Also returning for third-year head coach Julia Culotta is sophomore Kayla Briles who went a perfect 23-for-23 on stolen bases and totaled 34 hits.
Stevenson opens the 2019 season on Saturday, March 2 when the Mustangs travel to Randolph-Macon for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. The team opens conference play on Wednesday, March 13 at Alvernia.
