Mustangs Drop a Pair of Game in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. - Stevenson softball sophomore Kayla Briles extended her hitting streak to seven games but the Mustangs dropped a pair of non-conference games during their eight game spring break Florida trip Sunday morning at Hancock Park.

  • Bethel (Minn.) 18, Stevenson 4; WP: Maki (2-0), L: Haines (0-3)
  • The Mustangs (2-5) recorded the first run of the game as an RBI single by senior Erin Stephey scored Briles after a leadoff single and stolen base.
  • In the top of the second, the Royals (4-1) scored 10 runs, all unearned, after the leadoff batter reached on an error followed by a quick two outs.
  • Bethel added six runs in the third inning and two unearned runs in the fourth.
  • Stevenson scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning with junior Morghan Fulton launching a two-run homer with two outs.
  • Briles finished 3-for-3 with two runs while Fulton was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run.

  • The Hawks (4-0) scored the opening run of the game in the bottom of the first inning with an unearned run.
  • Sophomore Alexandra DiGrande gave the Mustangs the lead on one swing, blasting a two-out, two-run homer in the top of the fourth inning.
  • New Paltz scored a run in each of the fifth and sixth inning to take a 3-2 lead.
  • In the top of the seventh, Stevenson scored four runs on an RBI double by junior Haley Lennon and a two-run home run by Stephey. Briles also scored on a wild pitch.
  • Trailing by three, the Hawks scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh, including two unearned runs.
  • Stevenson took a one-run lead in extra innings on an RBI single by freshman Sierra Stark.
  • The Hawks responded with the game-tying run before scoring the game-winning run on an error.
  • Stark finished 3-for-5 while junior Erin Muir was 2-for-3.

  • Stephey launched her second home run of the season and 11th of her career while extending her hitting streak to five games.
  • DiGrande hit her second career homer and has a hit in three straight.
  • After her three-hit performance, Stark has now run her hitting streak to three games.
  • With three hits on the day, Fulton has a hit in six of her seven games this season, including a hit in five consecutive.
  • In the pitching circle, Fulton struck out three batters.

  • Stevenson returns to action on Tuesday, March 19 when the Mustangs face Lawrence at 9:15 a.m., followed by Wis.-Stevens Point at 11:30 a.m.
