Briles Extends Hitting Streak to Nine as Mustangs Split Two

CLERMONT, Fla. - Stevenson sophomore Kayla Briles extended her hitting streak to nine games this season while freshman Sierra Stark went 5-for-7 at the plate as the Mustangs split a pair of games during their spring break trip Tuesday afternoon at Lengends Way Field.

  • The Vikings (1-6) scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning as Maria Reiter hit a two-RBI double with two outs.
  • In the top of the second, the Mustangs (3-6) loaded the bases with the first three batters before Stark and sophomore Morgan Thayer knocked in back-to-back runs with one out.
  • Stevenson added a third run in the inning as Stark scored from third after a stolen base by Briles.
  • After a three-up, three-down inning by Fulton, the Mustangs added three more runs in the third as Stark, junior Danielle Ebbighausen, and freshman Jessica Alicea hit three straight bases loaded singles.
  • The Mustangs loaded the bases once again in the fourth inning before Ebbighausen drew a walk and Alicea hit a sacrifice fly.
  • Briles and junior Haley Lennon pulled off a double steal as Lennon stole second while Briles stole home.
  • During the next at bat, senior Erin Stephey drove in Lennon with an RBI double.
  • After an RBI single by Ebbighausen in the top of the fifth inning, Lawrence scored a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning, including one unearned.
  • Stark was 4-for-4 with three runs and one RBI while Ebbighausen finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs and one run.
  • Alicea recorded three RBIs while junior Erin Muir and sophomore Alexandra DiGrande each scored three runs.

  • After a combined four hits through the first two innings, the Pointers (5-7) pushed across six runs in the top of the third, including four with one out.
  • In the bottom half of the inning, the Mustangs had runners on second and third with no outs before the next three batters were retired.
  • Stark drove in a run in the fourth inning before a sacrifice fly in the fifth.
  • Trailing 6-2, Stevenson pushed across a run in the bottom of the seventh inning as Lennon hit a two-out RBI single.
  • Briles and Lennon each finished with two hits.
  • Freshman Jillian Haines struck out two batters in the pitching circle.

  • The Mustangs had a season-high 14 hits and nine RBIs versus Lawrence.
  • Alicea has a hit in five of seven games this season, including three straight.
