Mustangs Conclude Spring Break With Two Wins

CLERMONT, Fla. - Stevenson softball sophomore Haley Monahan pitched a complete game shutout while junior Morghan Fulton threw four strikeouts as the Mustangs completed their eight-game spring break trip with a pair of wins Wednesday afternoon at Hancock Park.

  • Stevenson 6, Mount Saint Mary 0; WP: Monahan (1-0), L: Hymes (1-5)
  • After a three-up, three-down top of the first inning, sophomore Kayla Briles hit a leadoff single for the Mustangs (5-6) and advanced to third with one out before being left stranded.
  • Briles would score the games first run in the third inning, scoring on a passed ball after a leadoff walk. Fulton brought in a run in the inning with an RBI single.
  • Neither team recorded a hit in the fourth inning before Stevenson pushed across four runs in the fifth.
  • Junior Erin Muir hit a sacrifice fly before freshman Sierra Stark hit a two-RBI double. Junior Samantha Znamirowski brought in a run on a groundout.
  • Fulton, Stark, and sophomore Alexandra DiGrande all finished with two hits while Briles finished with a pair of stolen bases.
  • Monahan allowed just two hits in the win.

  • The two teams combined for just one hit over the first two innings before the Mustangs scored three unearned runs in the third.
  • Senior Erin Stephey brought in two runs with a two-RBI double before an RBI single by Muir brought in the third run.
  • In the bottom half of the inning, the Raptors (3-3) loaded the bases with one out but Stephey threw the runner out at home before Fulton got the third out on a grounder to shortstop.
  • Rutgers-Camden scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh with one out before the final two batters fouled and flied out, respectively.
  • Fulton scattered just five hits and allowed no earned runs.
  • Briles finished 2-for-4 at the plate with one run while also stealing a base.

  • Briles has reached on 9 of 16 at bats as the leadoff batter. She has a hit in all 11 games this season and a steal in six straight.
  • It is the first career shutout for Monahan and sixth career complete game, including first this season.
  • Stephey extended her hitting streak to nine games while Muir extends her streak to five.

  • Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, March 23 when the Mustangs host a MAC Commonwealth contest versus Arcadia beginning at 1:00 p.m.
