Mustangs Sweep Wesley in Non-Conference Doubleheader

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson softball junior Morghan Fulton recorded her seventh win in the pitching circle while classmate Erin Muir recorded four RBIs as the Mustangs swept a non-conference doubleheader versus Wesley Wednesday afternoon at Weinberg-Fine Stadium.

  • Stevenson 2, Wesley 1 (8); WP: Fulton (7-3), L: Loukopoulos (5-4)
  • The two teams combined for just eight hits in the game as the Wolverins (12-14) recorded all three of their hits in the first four innings.
  • Wesley took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning on a two-out home run by Karina Cardona.
  • In the fifth inning, the Mustangs (9-10) had runners on second and thied with two outs but left both stranded.
  • With two outs in the sixth inning, Fulton hit an RBI single to right center to score senior Erin Stephey from first base.
  • The Wolverines loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the eighth inning, but the Mustangs got the first out at the plate before back-to-back groundouts to second base.
  • In the bottom half of the inning, the hosts had runners on second and third with no outs before a walkoff single by junior Haley Lennon.
  • Five different Mustangs recorded a hit while Fulton recorded a season-high seven strikeouts in the circle.

  • Ashley Royer gave the visitors a quick 2-0 lead with a two-run homer after a leadoff error.
  • The Mustangs got one run back in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by freshman Sierra Stark.
  • Stevenson added three runs in the fourth inning to take a 4-2 lead after RBIs by Muir and Fulton.
  • A solo home run by Cardona tied the game in the fifth inning before junior Alexandra DiGrande responded with a two-out RBI double in the bottom half of the inning.
  • In the sixth inning, the Mustangs loaded the bases with two outs before Muir cleared the bases with a double to left centerfield.
  • The trio of Muir, sophomore Kayla Briles, and freshman Jessica Alicea all recorded two hits.
  • Sophomore Haley Monahan picked up her second win in the pitching circle.

  • Stephey has a hit in 16 of her last 17 games while Muir has a hit in 12 of her last 13.
  • Fulton's seven wins are just three shy of tying her single season record of 10 set a season ago.

  • Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, April 6 when the Mustangs host a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader versus Messiah beginning at 1:00 p.m.
