Stephey Hits Grand Slam, Walk-Off in Sweep Over Lycoming

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson softball senior Erin Stephey launched her first career grand slam before hitting a walkoff RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning to lead the Mustangs to a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader sweep over Lycoming Tuesday afternoon at Weinberg-Fine Stadium.

  • The Mustangs (14-19, 6-10 MAC Commonwealth) took an early 1-0 lead as junior Erin Muir hit a two-out RBI single to left field to score Stephey from second.
  • Junior Haley Lennon knocked in a run in the fifth inning with a two-out shot to centerfield to score freshman Jessica Alicea.
  • The Warriors (18-14, 5-9 MAC Commonwealth) scored an unearned run in the sixth inning to get within one but junior Morghan Fulton pitched a three-up, three-down inning in the seventh.
  • Muir finished 3-for-3 while Alicea went 2-for-2.
  • Fulton scattered just five hits and allowed no earned runs while striking out five.

  • After just one combined hit through two and a half innings, senior Kayla Maggio led off the third inning with a single to centerfied.
  • Alicea moved Maggio with a sacrfice bunt before back-to-back walks by sophomore Kayla Briles and Lennon loaded the bases.
  • Stephey cleared the bases with a shot to centerfield and moved into second place all-time with 14 career home runs.
  • Lycoming took a 5-4 lead in the fifth inning, scoring five unearned runs behind two Stevenson errors.
  • In the bottom half of the inning, sophomore Alexandra DiGrande hit a two-out RBI single to tie the game at 5-5.
  • In the top of the ninth inning and the bases loaded, Lennon made a catch at the fence to keep the game tied.
  • With two outs in the bottom half of the inning, Lennon hit a triple down the right field line before Stephey knocked in the game-winning run.

  • Briles recorded her 24th steal of the season, setting the program record with steals in a season. She set the previous record at 23 in her rookie season.
  • Fulton has not allowed an earned run in each of her last three appearances.

  • Stevenson concludes the 2019 season on Wednesday, April 24 when the Mustangs host a non-conference contest versus Trinity (D.C.) beginning at 3:00 p.m.
