Capanelli Notches Unassisted Tally in 3-1 Home Loss to Utica

REISTERSTOWN, Md. - Stevenson women's ice hockey freshman Jessie Capanelli (Lancaster, Pa./West Chester Quakers) tied the game at 1-1 midway through the second period, however, the Mustangs were whistled for 12 penalties and the Pioneers were able to capitalize with their second power play goal 1:18 afterwards, en route to a 3-1 victory Saturday at Reisterstown Sportsplex.

The Mustangs (6-14-1) were outshot 33-19 and failed to convert on their nine power play opportunities managing only three shots on goal with the advantage.

Utica (14-8-2) struck first at 9:35 in the first period, seven seconds into their first power play opportunity of the evening when Meredith Tice found the back of the net for the third team this season with assists by Mary Fusco and Brittany Dellechiaie.

Dellechaie netted the game-winner at 11:47 in the second period while Louise Steele-Norton provided an insurance goal at 6:20 in the third, as both were named first and second star, respectively, for their efforts.

Capanelli was named third star for her 4-on-4 unassisted tally.

Freshman Sarah Modzelewski (Bloomington, Ind./Little Caesars) made 30 stops in goal.

Stevenson will conclude their inaugural season when the Mustangs and Pioneers wrap up their two-game series on Sunday beginning at 12:45 p.m.
