Pirrello Nets Hat Trick in Mustangs 5-2 Win Over Chatham

REISTERSTOWN, Md. - Stevenson women's ice hockey senior Jordan Pirrello netted her first career hat trick as the Mustangs remained unbeaten on home ice this season with a 4-2 United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) victory over Chatham Saturday afternoon at Reisterstown Sportsplex.

  • Just 56 seconds into the contest, the Mustangs (3-2-1, 2-2-0 UCHC) went on the power play and fired three shots on net but all three were stopped by Devon Strachan.
  • The hosts went back on the power play just 23 seconds after the first one ended and needed just 37 seconds before Pirrello found the back of the net.
  • Pirrello played the puck to freshman Karly Aguirre before entering the zone before Agguire played a return pass back door with the puck bounding off Pirrello and into the open net.
  • The Cougars (2-2-1, 1-1-1 UCHC) were whistled for their third penalty at the 6:37 mark as Stevenson scored with 21 seconds remaining in the player advantage.
  • Senior Allyson Barlow kept the puck in the offensive zone before firing a shot that was directed wide by sophomore Ally Gibson in front. Kendrick grabbed the loose puck and fired a shot glove side.
  • Pirrello netted her second goal of the game with 5:59 remaining in the period and just 41 seconds into the power play to push the hosts lead to 3-0.
  • Junior Trinity Barcless played the puck behind the net to Agguire who found Pirrello once again on the back door for a tap in goal.

  • Chatham started the period on the power play after the Mustangs were whistled for a protocol violation.
  • Stevenson killed off the penalty behind three saves from junior Annika Carlander.
  • The Cougars got on the board at the 7:36 mark as Grace Johnson scored on a rebound after Carlander made the initial pad save.
  • Just 1:25 later, the Mustangs responded as Pirrello completed her hat trick scoring over the blocker side right after the face-off.

  • The Mustangs started the period with 1:35 left to kill and did so behind a save by Carlander and a blocked shot by Pirrello.
  • Chatham got within 4-2 with 6:45 remaining in regulation after leading scorer Holly Ackerman tipped a shot in front.
  • After the Cougars called a timeout with 4:45 remaining, they pulled the goaltender in favor of an extra skater.
  • Carlander came off the ice on a delayed penalty, making it a six-on-six, before sophomore Tea Ferrara scored on the empty net with 3:43 remaining.
  • Sophomores Elizabeth Gaudreau and Paige Sullivan picked up the assists.

  • Stevenson outshot Chatham, 38-26, including 21-4 in the first period.
  • The Mustangs finished 3-for-9 on the power play and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.
  • Pirrello's hat trick is the 14th in program history and just her second career multi-goal game.
  • It is the third goal for Kendrick this season, who has a point in four of the six games.
  • Both Aguirre and Sullivan, who finished with two assists each, recorded their first multi-point game.
  • Carlander finished with 24 saves, including 13 in the second period.
  • They Mustangs improve to 10-1-0 all-time versus Chatham.
