ARLINGTON, Va. - The Stevenson women's lacrosse trio of senior Laura Grammer (Parkville, Md./Perry Hall), senior Emily Gartrell (Jarretsville, Md./North Harford) and sophomore Marissa Meiklejohn (Severn, Md./Old Mill) each had three goals to lead the No. 19 Mustangs over Marymount (Va.) Saturday in the CAC opener for both teams, 16-9.
Stevenson (4-2, 1-0 CAC) won its fourth consecutive conference opener, three of which have come against the Saints. The Mustangs jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first eight minutes and didn't look back as it never trailed in the contest and led 11-2 at halftime.
Meiklejohn led all scorers with a game-high four points while Grammer and Gartrell each finished with three. Sophomore Leah Warner (Pasadena, Md./Northeast) and dreshman Erin Fischer (Pasadena, Md./Northeast) also totaled three points apiece with Fisher setting a new career-high with two goals and one assist.
Senior Bri Manko (Towson, Md./Franklin) also set a new career-high with two points on a goal and an assist.
The Mustangs needed just 30 shots to score their 16 goals, scoring 11 in the opening half on just 16 shots. They were also 6-for-9 on free-position shots, including 4-for-4 in the first half.
Meanwhile, the Stevenson defense, led by four caused turnovers and five draw controls from Gartrell, held the Saints (1-5, 0-1 CAC) to just 13-of-22 on clear attempts, 14 ground balls and 11 draw controls. The Mustangs also caused 14 turnovers.
Senior Jenny Schroeder (Severna Park, Md./Seton Keough) was credited with eight saves, six of which came in the first half as the Mustangs built a nine-point halftime advantage.
Stevenson continues its four-game road trip on Tuesday when it travels to No. 18 York (Pa.) for a CAC contest with the Spartans beginning at 4:00 p.m.
