OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson women's lacrosse freshman Julija Eshmont (Baltimore, Md./Lutheran) earned her first win in her first career appearance in goal while scoring netting a hat-trick and scoring the first three goals of her career as the 20th-ranked Mustangs defeated Wesley 21-3 Wednesday at Mustang Stadium.
The win snapped a two-game losing streak for Stevenson (5-4, 2-1 CAC) who won for the second time in as many games at Mustang Stadium this season. In two home this season versus Wesley and Roanoke, the Mustangs have outscored their opponents, 39-8.
The last time Stevenson scored at least 21 goals in a game was when it netted 21 in a 21-6 CAC victory over Marymount (Va.) at home on Mar. 23, 2011.
Eshmont is the first player in the 18-year history of the women's lacrosse program at Stevenson to record a win in goal and score a goal in the same game.
Eshmont made her first career start in goal in place of injured senior Jenny Schroeder (Severna Park, Md./Seton Keough) and made one save in almost 20 minutes of action. She then transitioned to the field in the second half where she scored the first three goals of her career in a span of 4:49 to record her first career hat trick.
Meanwhile, senior Lauren Taguding (Baltimore, Md./Towson) netted her first goal of the season with 8:00 remaining in the first half. A defender who ranks fifth in school history with 80 draw controls and 10th with 46 caused turnovers, she now has two goals in 46 career games. Her only other tally came at Franklin & Marshall on Mar. 12, 2011.
Senior Kelly Lekas (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) totaled a career-high five goals and seven points against the Wolverines (4-7, 0-5 CAC), surpassing her previous career-best two goals and two points at Wesley on Mar. 2, 2011.
Lekas is the second Mustang to record five goals and seven points this season as sophomore Leah Warner (Pasadena, Md./Northeast) had five goals and seven points in the team's 18-5 victory over Roanoke at home on March 9.
Stevenson jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the game's first 22 minutes with Lekas scoring three goals and sophomore Marissa Meiklejohn (Severn, Md./Old Mill) adding a goal and two assists.
Wesley's leading scorers, Alyssa Prudente and Jen Jacobs scored their team-leading 40th and 32nd goals of the season as the Wolverines trailed at halftime, 11-2.
Meiklejohn added two more goals in the second half as the Mustangs outscored the Wolverines 10-1. She finished with four goals and six points while sophomore Mandy Marston (Baltimore, Md./Institute of Notre Dame) totaled four points and three assists to set new career-highs in both.
Jacobs scored twice to lead the Wolverines offensively while Alyssa Batty, the Division III leader in total saves, had 12.
