Trio Combines for 12 Goals, No. 19 Mustangs Down No. 20 Fredonia State, 17-8

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Led by four goals a piece by seniors Leah Warner and Marissa Meiklejohn and junior Kathryn Merrick, the 19th-ranked Stevenson women's lacrosse team scored 13 of the games first 16 goals en route to a 17-8 victory over No. 20 Fredonia State in the Stevenson Classic Sunday at Mustang Stadium.

The Mustangs (1-3) had eight different goal scorers including the first career goal for freshman Brady Heher and first goal of the season for sophomore Caitlyn McCall.

Sophomore Tori Wagner put Stevenson on the board first just 43 seconds into the game on an assist by fellow classmate Shelby Walter.

Following a Blue Devils goal by Katie Klein, the Mustangs scored back-to-back goals in an 18 second span and went on to score seven of the last eight goals of the half to lead 12-3 at the break.

The trio of Warner, Meiklejohn and Merrick combined for three assists as they all finished with five points. For Merrick, it is the second-straight game she has totaled five points.

Wagner dished out a career-high three assists to total a career-best four points.

Sophomore Jordan Porretto who is playing in her first season with the Mustangs picked up her first point in a Stevenson uniform with an assist.

Senior Mandy Marston finished with a game-high five draw controls while junior Meg Gill had a game-high three caused turnovers.

Junior Leanne Bittner and sophomore Maggie Lawder combined for three saves in net while Christina Matthewson totaled nine for Fredonia State (0-2).

Merrick, Meiklejohn and Bittner were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Stevenson hits the road for the first time this season on Wednesday, March 5 to take on Haverford. Opening draw is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
