Mustangs Cruise Past Lycoming for Fifth Straight Win

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - The Stevenson University women's lacrosse team jumped out to a 15-4 first half lead and posted its fifth straight win with a 19-7 triumph at Lycoming College in MAC Commonwealth play Saturday afternoon.

  • Stevenson (8-3, 3-0 MAC Commonwealth) scored its first three goals on free positions, with Kaitlyn Kozlowski scoring at 27:50, Lan Le Crotty at 26:20 and Tea Ferrara at 23:16.
  • After Lycoming's (2-10, 0-4 MAC Commonwealth) Kelly McGinniss scored at 21:30, the Mustangs rattled off six straight goals to take a 9-1 lead at the 11:57 mark on a Caroline Murphy goal.
  • Murphy kicked off the run with a goal at 20:20, before Amanda Zaykoski converted a free position at the 19:48 mark.  It marked Zaykoski's first career goal.
  • Six different players scored during the run, with Murphy scoring twice and Hannah Huff registering a goal and an assist.
  • McGinniss scored again at the 11:43 mark.
  • Melanie Meara scored the first of her three goals at the 10:58 mark.
  • After McGinniss' third goal of the game made it 10-3 with just under 10 minutes left, Stevenson reeled off three straight goals and a Meara tally off a feed from Le Crotty made it 14-3 with 3:48 left before halftime.  
  • 1:34 earlier, an unassisted score by Sarah Roerty, her first goal of the season, made it 13-3.
  • Tayla Wibecan converted a free position goal with 54 seconds left for her first Mustang goal and made it 15-4 at halftime.

  • First collegiate goals by Caity Schaefer at 14:38 and Cristina Parrish at 12:14 extended the Mustang lead to 17-4.
  • Stevenson's other two goals came on free positions by Meara at 5:05 and Maddie Zeller with 3:16 remaining.
  • McGinniss closed out the scoring for Lycoming with goals at 1:30 and 0:10.

  • Stevenson outshot Lycoming 36-20, including 24-13 in the opening 30 minutes.
  • The Mustangs finished 9-11 on free position shots for the game.
  • The guests collected 21 ground balls to 10 for Lycoming.
  • Meara led the Mustangs with three goals, while Murphy, Kozlowski and Carly Bowes each finished with two goals.
  • Bowes had three of Stevenson's 10 caused turnovers. Murphy had two.
  • Le Crotty notched a goal and two assists, while Wilbecan, Ferrara and Lindsay Seipp each had a goal and an assist.
  • A total of 14 different players scored for the Mustangs.
  • Kozlowski picked up three ground controls, while Meara and Ferrara had two apiece.
  • Mack Ferguson had six saves before being relieved by Beyonce Carrington with 6:13 to play.  Carrington made one save.
  • Stevenson improved to 7-0 all-time against Lycoming.
  • Stevenson's five-game win streak is its longest since winning six straight in the 2017 season.

  • Stevenson travels to Hood for a 7 pm MAC Commonwealth contest on Wednesday night.
  • The Mustangs return home the following night, Thursday, April 11, when it hosts Washington College.
