Mustangs Drop Season Opener Versus Rochester (N.Y.), 1-0

GENEVA, N.Y. - Stevenson women's soccer sophomore Keegan Caffrey matched her career-high with seven saves as the Mustangs dropped their season opener, 1-0, versus Rochester (N.Y.) in the Stand on Your Shoulders Invitational hosted by William Smith Friday afternoon at Cozzens Field.

  • Caffrey was tested early and came up with one of her four first half saves just 2:30 into the contest.
  • The first three Stevenson shots were off frame before sophomore Shannon McNulty put the team's first shot on goal in the 36th minute.
  • Junior Alex Hamel drove a shot from nearly 40 yards away late in the half but it was easily saved by Emma Schechter.
  • The Mustangs were outshot, 6-5, in the half.

  • The Yellow Jackets (1-0) broke through just 6:24 into the second half as Cesca Sheppard hit a left-footed shot inside the 18-yard box to the far post. Carolyn Richards was credited with the assist after heading the ball forward. The goal was set up after a failed clear from the Mustangs.
  • With under seven minutes remaining, senior Jess Littlepage played a ball into the box that was nearly mishandled by Schechter with sophomore Melanie Parncutt right on the doorstep.
  • Stevenson (0-1) recorded four shots in the second half, with its lone two shots on goal coming in the opening five minutes.

  • The loss snaps six straight season opening wins for the Mustangs.
  • It was just the second start for Caffrey in net as she is only second goalie to start a game over last four years.
  • Senior Sam Hooker made her 58th consecutive start.
  • Freshmen Hannah Adams and Kierra McGee made their first career appearances.
  • It is just the third time in the last four seasons the Mustangs were held without a corner kick.

  • The Mustangs will face 7th-ranked William Smith on day two of the Stand on Your Shoulders Invitational at 3:30 p.m. Head coach Tati Korba will face-off against her alma mater and previous head coach, Alicean Wilber.
  • Stevenson opens at home on Saturday, September 8 when the Mustangs host St. Mary's (Md.) in a non-conference contest beginning at 4:00 p.m.
