Littlepage First Of The Year Helps To Down Hood

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Senior Jess Littlepage scored off a penalty kick in the first half and classmate Sam Hooker added one in the second half and that would be enough to propel the Stevenson women's soccer team to their second MAC Commonwealth victory of the year defeating the visiting Hood College Blazers by a final of 2-0 on Wednesday night at Mustang Stadium.

  • For the first ten-plus minutes netiher side was able to threaten the goal until in the 13th-minute Stevenson (3-7-2, 2-2 MAC Commonwealth) had a chance to take the lead as the corner kick from sophomore Allison Arters curled in towards the goal guarded by Lydia Erickson and struck the crossbar, but fell to the side and was cleared by the Blazers.
  • Hood (3-9, 0-4 MAC Commonwealth) responded with their opening chance two minutes later when Erin Scarborough got free on the left side but sent her offering high of sophomore Keegan Caffrey between the sticks keeping it scoreless.
  • With 15 minutes remaining in the opening opening half the Mustangs went on the attack as Littlepage fired a shot from inside the box that was blocked by a Hood defender.  The riccochet kicked out to Hooker who let one fly from 25-yards but it sailed just over the goal.
  • The Mustangs were finally rewarded for their hard work in the 27th minute when a handball was called in the box against a Blazers defender resulting in a penalty kick.  Littlepage stepped up to the spot and sent the keeper diving to her left while the ball went to right past laid out Erickson for a 1-0 home lead.
  • Scarborough looked to answer three minutes but her attempt from 12-yards out went over the head of Caffrey out of play.
  • Stevenson would recorded the only other shot of the half with 13 seconds to go but junior Alayna Roesener had her shot blocked by the Hood defense.
  • The period came to a close with the home side holding a 6-2 edge in shots.

  • Stevenson posted the first chance of the second frame just four minutes in as sophomore Bridget Heist let one go from 20-yards out that bounced right into Erickson for an easy save.  Heist tried her luck again in the 50th-minute, but had her try go off the outside of the cage.
  • The Mustangs made it 2-0 in the 55th-minute as the ball found its way into the box and after a failed Hood clearance the ball bounced off the head of Heist landing at the feet of Hooker who slid it past Erickson.
  • The duo of Heist and Hooker had two more chances to push the lead out even further but Heist had her blast knocked away by Erickson.  The rebound shot off the boot of Hooker was high and the game stayed at 2-0 through 65-minutes.
  • In the 68th-minute the hosts were on the push again as freshman Jessica Kern got loose in the attacking third and sent a shot off the crossbar.
  • Then three minutes later Littlepage let one go from the top of the box that Erickson was able to push over the crossbar.  Off the following corner junior Delayna Witouski had a shot cancelled out by the Blazers defense keeping the 2-0 scoreline.
  • Hood had their best chance of the second half with ten minutes to play when a corner taken Grace Weaver found the head of Madisyn Klein who headed the ball off the crossbar keeping the shutout in tact.  A minute later off another corner kick a header by Melissa Meritt went wide.
  • The Mustangs would have the last chance of the contest looking to make it 3-0 but the offering from sophomore Melanie Parncutt went high bringing the game to an end.

  • With the victory Stevenson now leads the all-time series with Hood 16-1-1 including now ten straight wins.
  • The Mustangs held a commanding 17-6 edge in shots and a slim 5-3 advantage in corners.
  • Caffrey had to make no saves on the night and recorded her fourth shutout of the season.
  • Littlepage scored her first of the year and of her Mustang career.
  • Hooker tallied her team leading second marker of the campaign.
  • Nine Mustangs have now recorded a goal on the season.

After a failed clearing attempt Heist heads it to Hooker who finds the net.

  • Stevenson will be on the road for their next two contests.  First, on Saturday, October 13 they will visit Lebanon Valley College in a MAC Commonwealth tilt at 1pm.  Then on Tuesday, October 16 conference play continues with a trip to Albright College for a 7pm kick.
  • The Mustangs return to Mustang Stadium on Friday, October 19 when they welcome Alvernia University to Owings Mills at 7pm.
