McDaniel Scores Late, Mustangs Drop Non-Conference Contest

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - McDaniel scored the go-ahead goal in the 87th minute while the Stevenson women's soccer team was shutout for the third time this season en route to a 1-0 victory for the visiting Green Terror Wednesday evening at Mustang Stadium.

  • In the opening minutes of the contest, senior Marissa Inglisa got a foot on a slow rolling ball in the box but goalkeeper Katherine Carstensen came out to meet her for the save.
  • Down the other end, Hannah Schepers got behind the Mustangs (1-4-1) defense but senior Rylie Patterson recovered and forced a week shot that junior Keegan Caffrey easily covered.
  • In the 41st minute, junior Gabrielle Arters got her feet free for a shot from 35 yards out but Carstensen was able to keep it in front of her.
  • The Green Terror held possession for 58 percent of the opening half.

  • Early in the half, Schepers hit a left-footed shot off the top of the crossbar after the ball bounced to her following a corner kick.
  • The Green Terror (5-1-0) had back-to-back decent shots but both were off target with one sailing over the cross bar and the other wide left.
  • Senior Alex Hamel recorded her second shot on net off a free kick of the half in the 74th minute but was easily saved by Carstensen.
  • In the 85th minute, Arters fired a shot from the top of the box, forcing Carstensen to make a diving save.
  • At 86:38, Maddie Schwartz headed in the game-winning goal on a corner kick from Kristen Worry.

  • McDaniel outshot Stevenson, 19-7, and held an 11-3 advantage in corner kicks.
  • Both goalkeepers finished with six saves, with Caffrey making four in the opening half.
  • Six of the seven goals the Mustangs have allowed this season have come in the 75th minute or later, including three in the final 10 minutes.

  • Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, September 21 when the Mustangs travel to DeSales for a non-conference contest beginning at 1:00 p.m.
  • The Mustangs return home on Wednesday, September 25 when the team hosts a non-conference contest beginning at 7:00 p.m.
