Skove Picks Up Lone Singles Victory in 7-2 Loss to Stockton

STEVENSON, Md. - Junior Jenna Skove opened up her fall campaign with a straight-set victory in Stevenson's 7-2 season-opening loss to Stockton. Skove won a 10-4 tiebreak in the opening set en route to a 7-6 (10-4), 6-4 triumph in her No. 1 singles match.

The other win for Stevenson came in No. 2 doubles where senior Kirstyn Davidson and sophomore Megan Waskiewicz took down their opponents by an 8-4 score. 

Skove and junior Kelsi Mentzer opened up the match with a hard-fought 9-7 loss in No. 1 doubles, while junior Nina Bretz and sophomore Taelor Brown fell in their No. 3 match by a score of 8-4. The loss ends a nine-match winning streak, dating back to last season, for Skove and Mentzer. 

Davidson overcame a one-set deficit to knot up her No. 2 singles match a one-set apiece, but would fall in the third set by a 10-5 score. 

Waskiewicz dropped her No. 4 match in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. 

The Mustangs (0-1) compete next in the three-day ITA Tournament, hosted by Mary Washington, starting on Friday, September 21.
