Ani Picks Up Win in Shot Put, Gates Set School Record in 10,000 at Curran Invite

CHESTER, Pa. - Junior Danika Ani opened up the outdoor season with a first-place finish in the shot put at the Danny Curran Invitational, hosted by Widener. Ani's winning toss of 13.12 meters is currently tops in the Mideast region, seventh in Division III and has already qualified her for the AARTFC Outdoor Championship in May. Senior Jess Rega took fourth place in the event with a top throw of 12.37 meters. 

Sophomore Emily Gates clocked a new school record in her 10,000m run debut with a time of 39:39.40, breaking the previous school mark by just over a minute (40:39.89 by Brittany Appleby in 2017). Gates, who finished fifth overall in the event, also earned her a spot into the AARTFC Championship with her time. 

Ani finished ninth in the discus with a toss of 35.02m, while seniors Lauren Dioses and Allison Bishop placed 10th and 11th with throws of 34.18 and 33.84.

Junior CJ Morris clocked a 20:12.88 in the 5k, giving her 20th out of 50 runners. 

The remaining events take place on Saturday, March 30.
