ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Stevenson University women's outdoor track and field team was selected fourth in the Middle Atlantic Conference pre-championship coaches poll released Friday. Defending champion Messiah picked up nine first place votes and 140 points, followed by Misericordia (130, 3 first place votes) and Eastern (117, 1 first place vote). Stevenson collected 115 points.
This year's championship will take place at Widener from Thursday, May 2 through Saturday, May 4.
The Mustangs, who are No. 7 in this week's USTFCCCA Mideast Region ranking, have eight top-5 marks in conference competition thus far in the spring, including a pair of top marks. Rachel Panek has the MAC's top effort in the 400-meter hurdles (1:04.42), while Danika Ani has the league's best shot put throw (13.12 meters).
Panek also has the No. 2 score in the heptathlon (4,421 points) and has the No. 3 time in the 100 hurdles (15.14 seconds) and the fifth-best high jump (1.56 meters). Kimberly Hammond has the conference's No. 2 long jump (5.36 meters), while Jess Rega has the No. 2 shot put throw behind Ani (12.65 meters). Lauren Dioses has the second-best effort in the hammer throw (48.19 meters).
