NEW ORLEANS – Junior Danika Ani earned three USTFCCCA All-Region nods as the Stevenson University women's outdoor track and field team had a total of five student-athletes honored.
Ani was honored in the discus, hammer and shot put. Senior Lauren Dioses was also recognized in the hammer throw, while classmate Jess Rega earned All-Region accolades in the shot put. Sophomore Rachel Panek was honored in both the heptathlon and the 400-meter hurdles, while junior Kimberly Hammond was All-Region in the long jump.
Top-5 individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region honors, in addition to each of the members of a top-3 ranked relay team.
Ani owns the No. 3 spot in the region in all three throwing events. She recorded a throw of 13.12 meters in the shot put at the Danny Curran Invitational on March 9. Her discus throw at the Middle Atlantic Conference Championship on May 2 of 40.90 meters was good for third, while she set her top hammer mark of the season, 48.54 meters, at last week's AARTFC Championship.
Dioses posted the No. 4 mark in the region in the hammer, coming in with a 48.19 meter toss at the York Twilight Meet on April 17. Rega finished No. 2 in the region in the shot put with a 13.23 meter throw at the MAC Championship.
Panek compiled 4421 points in the heptathlon at the Mondschein Multi on April 11 to have the Mideast Region's fourth-best effort, while she posted a 400-meter hurdle time of 1:04.22 at last week's Swarthmore Final Qualifier.
Hammond has the No. 2 long jump mark in the region and the fourth-best nationally with a 5.90-meter leap at last week's AARTFC Championship to qualify for this week's NCAA Division III Championship.
