Mustangs Sweep Penn State Harrisburg, Wesley in Tri-Match

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - The Stevenson University women's volleyball team remained undefeated after sweeping a tri-match agains Penn State Harrisburg and Wesley on Saturday by posting two 3-0 wins. 

  • Set scores were 25-19, 25-21, 25-13.
  • In the second set, the Mustangs rallied to get on top with four straight kills against the Lions to get to 12-9.
  • Katie Leftridge led the Mustangs with seven kills and had six digs.
  • Mackenzie Blevins had 19 assists and three service aces, while Caroline Dangel had 12 for the Mustangs.
  • Blevins also had six kills.
  • Kayla Vaeth had a team-high seven digs.
  • Stevenson hit .278 for the match while Penn State Harrisburg (9-7) hit .101.

  • Set scores were 25-14, 25-15, 30-28. 
  • After a Haley Hoover kill, a service ace by Blevins won the first set for the Mustangs.
  • In the third set the Mustangs trailed 25-24 with Wesley (11-9) serving for the set, but a Blevins kill kept the set going.
  • With the set tied 28-28, a Dangel kill, followed by a block by Victoria Prokic and Victoria Bryant, closed the match out.
  • Shannon Baily led the Mustangs with eight kills, while Blevins had seven.
  • Blevins led the team for the second match of the day with 22 assists and teammate Dangel with 15.
  • Sarah Straub hit .625 with no errors with five kills on eight attempts.
  • Vaeth had a team-high 12 digs.
  • The Mustangs hit .233 overall, while the Wolverines .054 as a team.

  • The Mustangs remain one of three unbeaten teams nationally along with Johns Hopkins and Tufts.
  • Stevenson's 18 wins to start the season is the second-longest winning streak to begin a season in program history.
  • Seventeen of the 18 players on the Mustang roster played in both contests.
  • Leftridge is just 60 kills away from 1,000 for her career.

  • Stevenson returns home next week, hosting Elizabethtown on Tuesday, October 8 in a 7 pm contest at Owings Mills Gymnasium.
